Finally done!
Can't believe that I managed to pull off my first completed game ever in 48 hrs!
I really want to thank Brackeys, Blackthornprod and Unity, which are my main source of unity tutorial.
Man, we live in a great time with so much resource on web.
I feel that this game could be expanded to a roguelite, with more drastic attack patterns as well as powerups and hazards to mix things up. At first I was dreaming to make the spaceship smarter, that it could dodge enemies and bullets on its own, but of course, occasionally you may face a run that the ship runs everywhere uncontrollably. If anyone is interested in making games, feel free to contact me, though I'm a graduate student that may be busy after August, I am an amateur artist and programmer.
Let's talk more about game design. Although it emerged without that much of careful planning, this is what I found.
Grabbing bullets : By instinct, i would drag bullets to crash into enemies. To compensate for the ease of use, I limited the speed of the player, so that when you grab one, it you may not be able to deal with other enemy bullets. Through play test, I discovered several tactics. 1. Drag bullets only to the trail where it would hit enemy, saves time 2. Grab bullets to another bullet, release mouse and click again immediately, now you hold two bullets!
Bonking the bullet: This one is surprisingly satisfying to use! It feel like juggling the bullets to land on enemies. It requires much more effort than grabbing, but since the collision boxes are fairly large it isn't as frustrating as I thought it would be, instead, when you try to hit an enemy afar, you bump the bullets and cross your fingers to watch it land, that is quite satisfying. However, the initial idea is that this ability serves as a longer-reach attack balanced by the planning it requires, but as a matter of fact, its reach is limited on top or below of your player, which limits its flexibility due the speed limit of player, maybe in future iteration, this ability would affect all the bullets in screen, or maybe enemies as well, to bash them into walls or other hazards.
That's all for today,
For those who read the whole article or even you that reached here,
Stay healthy! Hope you had a good time playing my games.
